Honoring Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on This Day

The 68th anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar’s passing is December 6, 2024. He was a visionary who was instrumental in drafting India’s Constitution and fighting for the rights of underrepresented groups. People commemorate Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy and consider his contributions to social justice and equality on this day at Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai, where he is buried.

Millions of people are still motivated by Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas and his struggle for justice, and Mahaparinirvan Diwas serves as a reminder of his influence on India’s social and legal structures.

What’s open and closed on December 6?

A local holiday in Mumbai and the neighboring areas is Mahaparinirvan Diwas. You should be aware of the following: Offices of the state and semi-government are closed for the day.

The Mumbai city collector has declared December 6 to be a “dry day,” thus liquor stores are closed all around the city.

The stock markets will operate as usual, and trade hours won’t be altered. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will carry on as usual.

Major public and private institutions, such as the State Bank of India, will continue to operate.
There will be no modifications to trade hours, and stock markets will function normally. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will both continue to operate normally.

Special Provisions at Chaityabhoomi for Guests

Special plans are being prepared to control the throng as thousands of people will be attending Chaityabhoomi to honor Dr. Ambedkar:

Trains: To accommodate the extra tourists, Central Railway will operate 12 extra suburban trains on December 5 and 6 (six on the main line and six on the harbor line).
Dadar Station: Separate entrances and exits have been set up to facilitate traffic.

Traffic: To guarantee a smooth vehicle flow, the Mumbai Traffic Police have implemented additional traffic measures from 6:00 AM on December 5 to midnight on December 7.
The goal of these actions is to make everyone’s visit safer and more comfortable.

Considering the Legacy of Dr. Ambedkar

In addition to commemorating Dr. Ambedkar’s accomplishments, Mahaparinirvan Diwas offers an opportunity to consider his vision for a society founded on justice, equality, and respect for everyone. Let’s endeavor to uphold his message for a more equitable and inclusive society as we commemorate his life and contributions.
